Overview:

Hello! My name is Kevin McCoy, and I am a Statistics PhD student at Rice University in Houston, TX. I am originally from Danbury, CT, and I received my Bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech in Biomedical Engineering. It was during an introductory biostatistics course that I discovered my lifelong love for statistics, a field that combines my passions for mathematics, computer science, and medicine. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, reading, and hanging out with my cat, Hazel.

Research:

My research interests revolve around artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) and how they can be applied to precision medicine. I currently work under the advisement of Dr. Christine Peterson at MD Anderson Cancer. My latest project involved the use of computer vision to elevate the quality of CT scan images used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. I hope that one day my work can help alleviate the incredible strain on medical resources, while also allowing doctors to have more creative free time to deliver the best care possible to their patients. Outside of precision medicine, I am also interested in Bayesian statistics and how it can be used to help ML become more transparent and explainable. Finally, I am committed to the principles of algorithmic fairness and making AI and ML work for everyone.
